What is Kiln Dried?

Have you ever struggled all night keeping your fire burning? And by the end of the night your home is just filled with smoke? That’s because your firewood is not dry enough, a common problem with “seasoned” firewood. Kiln-dried firewood solves this problem by removing almost all of the moisture out of the wood, which results in a great fire that was easy to start and produced much less smoke!

Kiln-Dried Firewood vs. Seasoned Firewood

All firewood is not the same. There are a variety of factors that affect how hot, how easily, and how long your fire burns. However, the main factor is moisture content. The more moisture firewood holds, the harder it is to burn and the more smoke it will produce.

Our firewood kiln essentially cooks the moisture right out of the wood, so it lights easier, burns hotter, and is insect-free. After the firewood is dried in the kiln, it never sits outside, which means you are getting the driest firewood possible that is also insect and mold-free.

Seasoned firewood providers need to let their firewood sit outside for a full year for the moisture content to drop. However, the firewood is often in enormous piles. How dry is that firewood in the middle of the pile going to be? With how much rain New Jersey gets each year, chances are not very dry. Insects and mold will almost be a guarantee as well. Even after a full year, seasoned wood has twice as much moisture content as our kiln dried firewood.

It’s time to make the switch to kiln-dried firewood. Your time is too valuable to struggle all night lighting a fire with seasoned wood. Sit back and relax with kiln-dried firewood!
